The Urban Resilience Research Fellowship offers a unique educational opportunity for high-potential individuals to work with EMI, link research to practice and gain on the ground experience in Urban Resilience and Risk Management.

Students completing the final year of their bachelor’s degrees and those enrolled in masters or doctorate programs now have the chance to gain practical experience in urban disaster risk reduction through EMI’s Global Internship and Fellowship program.

EMI engages fellows and interns in key urban risk reduction practices such as emergency management, risk sensitive land use planning, risk governance and policy, shelter and housing resilience, social participation and protection, vulnerability and risk assessment, knowledge management, GIS (geographic information systems), and capacity building.

EMI is a laboratory for testing assumptions, exchanging knowledge, and developing practical solutions and products that address the risks faced by complex cities and metropolises around the world. Our Global Internship and Fellowship Program enriches the learning experience of participating students through engagements in different projects. Through this process, participants in the program will get the chance to develop tools, conduct assessments, contribute to the development of reports and proposals, do field work, and interact with scientists, experts, practitioners, and local officials. EMI’s own working environment complements this project-based learning by providing a unique experience with its dynamic and young staff, as well as its global network of experts.

Past fellows and interns include students from the University of Amsterdam (Netherlands), University of Applied Sciences (Netherlands), Ateneo De Manila University (Philippines), Dartmouth College (USA), Ecole Central de Nantes (France), Universidad Internacional de Catalunya (Spain), Kobe University (Japan), Miriam College (Philippines), University of the Philippines, Sciences Po (France), Stanford University, (USA), and University of Toronto (Canada).
