Philippine Disaster Resilience Foundation (PDRF), together with partner organization, Earthquakes and Megacities Initiative (EMI) launched the PDRF Emergency Operations Center (EOC), the first of its kind in the country to this day on June 29.
PDRF is an initiative led by private institutions such as Aboitiz Foundation, Ayala group, International Container Terminal Services Inc., Jollibee Group Foundation, Liwayway Marketing Corp., Pilipinas Shell, PJ Lhuillier Inc., PLDT, Smart and San Miguel Corp. to cater to the need for a more efficient disaster risk management in the country by setting up an EOC. While the permanent operations center in Clark is still undergoing construction, the EOC is temporarily located at the Shell House at 156 Valero St., Salcedo Village, Makati.
The operations center was constructed to function as a central unit in times of disasters as well as to provide training in relation to disaster preparedness. It is geared with technology to monitor possible hazards that may arise as well as to be able to immediately achieve response and recovery efforts, given that the country’s vulnerability to disaster risk is high. With three objectives in hand, specifically to ensure cooperation and collaboration, to empower individual businesses to build their own disaster resilience, and to strengthen preparedness of SME’s, the EOC will synchronize private sectors with the government in terms of disaster response as well as mitigation measures.
The EOC was blessed by Bishop Luis Antonio Cardinal Tagle, who, along with Manual V. Pangilinan and Jaime Augusto Zobel de Ayala, serves as one of the co-chairs.
