Despite heavy rains, an orientation with the city stakeholders and barangay officials was held through the collaboration of Pasig City and EMI last Saturday, August 4, at the Valle Verde Country Club in Pasig City. Attendees included the City Administrator, members of the Pasig City Government (PCG) project management team, Engr. Nicolas M. Cruz, and Mr. Ritche van C. Angeles, Project Manager and Project Coordinator, respectively. Various representatives from the Pasig Central Business District and subdivisions along Barangays Ugong and Bagong Ilog, and several barangay officials from nearby barangays also attended.
The opening remarks was provided by City Administrator Atty. Reynaldo Dionisio. He provided a brief recap on the project aims, and emphasized on the importance of awareness among city and community stakeholders.
The activity centered on the presentation by Dr. Eng. Fouad M. Bendimerad, Project Director and EMI Chairman, focusing on the earthquake findings of the project, and discussing at length on the West Valley Fault system and its potential impacts to nearby communities. He discussed the higher risk expected on the eastern portions of Pasig and the comparatively lower risk associated with the fault zone proximity on the western side of the city. His presentation also included the project key outputs and accomplishments, including the Pasig City Risk Profile and Atlas that was just recently delivered to the city. Dr. Bendimerad ended his presentation by providing some possible preparedness measures at the family, community, institutional and business scales.
The presentation was followed by an open forum in which Dr. Bendimerad, Engr. Nicolas M. Cruz, PCG Project Manager, Mr. Ritche van C. Angeles, PCG Project Coordinator and City Administrator Atty. Reynaldo P. Dionisio took turns in answering questions from the attendees. Mr. Angeles, as the Pasig City DRRMO Chief, had even presented the city initiatives and practices on disaster preparedness and emergency response as a rejoinder on the audience' interest.
