The ASEAN Training Course on Urban Disaster Risk Reduction and Climate Change Adaptation was recently held from March 21-23, 2012 in Quezon City, Philippines. The course was intended to enhance the capacities of urban local governments in integrating DRR and CCA strategies and actions into development planning and decision-making processes by training the participants on how to develop and implement local solutions that will increase disaster and climate resilience in cities and urban areas. Two senior EMI staff were invited as presenters at this event.
Mr. Jerome Zayas, Senior Technical Manager, spoke about Disaster Risk and Climate Change Adaptation in the Urban Context, while Dr. Eng. Fouad Bendimerad, EMI Chairman and Executive Director, gave a presentation on Integrating Climate Change Adaptation and Risk Management in Urban Development Planning. Dr. Bendimerad was also one of the invited speakers at the launch of the UN/ISDR's Mayor's Handbook on Making Cities Resilient, which capped the first day of the training.
