The Americas Cluster met on October 12-14, 2005, in Bogotá, Colombia. The meeting was hosted by the Direccion de Prevencion y Atencion de Emergencias (DPAE) of the Metropolitan Municipality of Bogota. The general theme of the meeting was Planning, responding, recovering and reconstructing after a major earthquake. In addition to several officials and planners from the Municipality of Bogota, the meeting was attended by representatives from Los Angeles, Quito, Mexico City, Lima and Istanbul, by researchers from several academic institutions from these cities. Presentations were also provided by representatives from PAHO (Pan-American Health Organization) and PREDECAN (Prevencion de Desasres en la Comunidad Andina) a disaster risk reduction initiative from five Andes region (Bolivia, Colombia, Ecuador, Peru, and Venezuela).
